Vrienden Lottery The Dutch lottery that's committed to culture

In 2006, Naturalis agreed a partnership with the Vrienden Lottery, the Dutch lottery that's committed to culture. Since then, the Vrienden Lottery has supported Naturalis with a fixed annual contribution. Naturalis also receives a contribution from lottery players who play specifically earmarked Naturalis tickets.

Playing for museums

Players of the Vrienden Lottery can play for a museum of their choice, such as Naturalis. This offers a range of benefits, such as occasional invitations to attend an exclusive tour or VIP package. It also helps Naturalis, as at least 40% of the price of your lottery ticket(s) go straight to us. A VIP pass allows you to visit over 100 museums in the Netherlands for free as well as offering discounts for zoos, theme parks, musicals, concerts and theatre performances. Gamble aware, 18+.

The Vrienden Lottery is part of the holding company Nationale Goede Doelen Loterijen NV (National Charity Lotteries), together with the National Postcode Lottery. These charity lotteries are the second largest private contributors to charity in the world.

The Vrienden Lottery is a lottery devoted to Dutch culture. In 2022, the 1.1 million participants of the Vrienden Lottery raised an amount of €134.8 million. This amount benefits 57 partners who are committed to culture and monument care in the Netherlands and more than 3,500 charities, clubs and associations. Our
history

The Vrienden Lottery and the Naturalis Biodiversity Center have worked together since 2006. The Vrienden Lottery will continue to support Naturalis from 2021 until 2025 with a fixed yearly contribution of €300,000. Naturalis also receives a contribution from lottery players who play earmarked tickets, with at least 40% of the monthly ticket price being donated to Naturalis.

Highlights of the partnership over the past few years include the arrival of T. rex Trix at the museum in Leiden, for which the Vrienden Lottery donated €1.2 million. The Vrienden Lottery also provided funding for the renovation of Naturalis, with €550,000 for LiveScience and €1.25 million for the Rexperience. Furthermore, the Good Cause Galas organized by the Vrienden Lottery and the FriendsLottery were held in the new Naturalis building in February 2020. That same year, Naturalis won the BankGiro Lottery Museum Prize. In 2023, Naturalis was awarded a contribution of €1.5 million. This makes the special cultural project 'Triceratops on Tour' possible.
