The biodiversity crisis threatens our society and economy. All organisations depend on biodiversity, either directly or indirectly, and can make choices that consider biodiversity. But where do you start as an organisation? Alliander, the Impact Institute and the Naturalis Biodiversity Centre have designed a biodiversity management framework to help organisations identify the changes that impact biodiversity.

Why would an organisation want to use a model like this? In order to manage our environment sustainably, organisations must operate within planetary boundaries. This requires a deep understanding of the positive and negative impacts that companies have on the world.
In addition to intrinsic motivation, new legislation is compelling organisations to take action. A key example is the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), which stems from the European ambition to improve the health of nature, the foundation of our economy. Furthermore, setting a strong example and maintaining a sustainable image can enhance an organisation's appeal in the labour market.

The model above has been developed especially for network companies (network operators). However, it can easily be adapted for use by organisations in other sectors. It serves as a checklist to help translate long-term strategic goals into concrete actions and measurable results in the form of KPIs.
