Best practices for Vertebrate Specimen Preparation

Collection specimens

This training course about vertebrate specimen preparation is part of DEST and co-organized by Naturalis. The upcoming edition will take place in October 2023. It is a blended course that combines online interactive modules to expand knowledge on collections and the value of high-quality specimens for science and three days in the lab. At Naturalis participants will practice with preparing specimens, including study skins, fluid preserved specimens, skeletal specimens, and spread wings. Participants will learn about the basics of how to start a network for passive collections and how to preserve vertebrate specimens for the long term as high-quality scientific museum specimens. The goal for this course is to teach best practices for the  preparation of museum quality vertebrate specimens and their long term care.
