Managing
different collections

After completing a Biology degree at the University of Lisbon I followed my interests in animal behaviour and did a Master in Ethology at the Institute of Applied Psychology of Lisbon (ISPA).

After 6 years experience as a coordinator of a large scale digitization project aimed at disclosing a butterfly collection, I currently occupy the position of Collection Manager Diptera, Chelicerata, Myriapoda and small insect orders at Naturalis.

As such, I am responsible for the management and preservation of both the digital and physical collection with a size of 2.5 million objects. I am involved in the continuous maintenance of the collections and facilitating (international) research. Working closely with specialists I draw plans for the development of the subcollections and carefully assess the acquisition of new collection material and the use of the collection for (biodiversity) research, exhibitions and educational purposes.

As an ambassador of the collection, one of my major goals is to increase visibility for each subcollection through public outreach and thus to promote knowledge about these diverse and ecologically important groups.
