Mijn belangrijkste interesse is het begrijpen van faunagemeenschappen die in verschillende afzettingsomgevingen leven en hoe deze veranderen gedurende de geologische tijd.

interesse

Ik ben altijd zeer geïnteresseerd geweest in natuurlijke historie, vooral weekdieren. Het veldwerk tijdens mijn studie geologie bracht me naar verschillende delen van Spanje waar ik landslakken verzamelde en de impact van geologie en klimaat op hun verspreiding ontdekte.

Mijn geologische opleidingen en scriptie waren gericht op de stratigrafie en afzettingsgeschiedenis van het Devoon en het vroege Carboon van de Cantabrische bergen (NW Spanje), waarin ik conodonten gebruikte als indicator voor ouderdom.

Ik werd een actief lid van de Nederlandse Malacologische Vereniging en de Werkgroep voor Tertiaire en Kwartaire Geologie en bestudeerde Noordwest-Europese fauna: van de tropische fauna in het Eoceen van het Parijse bekken tot de tijdelijke ontsluitingen met holocene en recente faunas.

Ik woonde 6 jaar in Sarawak (Maleisië) waar ik werkte voor Sarawak Shell Berhad. Ik bemonsterde en bestudeerde het lokale Mioceen tot de hedendaagse fauna en had de mogelijkheid om uitgebreid door de regio te reizen. De afzettingsomgevingen in de regio en hun fauna hebben veel veranderingen ondergaan. Vooral de grote veranderingen tijdens de zeespiegelstijging in het Holoceen zijn opmerkelijk. Er is voldoende materiaal voor vele jaren aan vervolgstudies. Ik werk graag samen met specialisten op het gebied van specifieke weekdiergroepen.
