In 1891 Eugene Dubois found the first Homo erectus fossils in fluvial deposits along the Solo riverbanks near Trinil, Java. Since the discovery of the hominin fossils their taxonomy and stratigraphic origin have been heavily debated. My work as a PhD candidate focuses on understanding and dating the complex geology at the Trinil in order to get better understanding of the Dubois collection and how old the Homo erectus fossils from Trinil are.
