The results of our digging up to now are overwhelming; they exceed our highest expectations. In the words of Dodo specialist and extinct bird hunter Julian Hume: "you found gold!" However, the government and the people of Mauritius are very sensitive to communication about the Dodo. That's why we cannot present our findings in detail. Christian Foo Kune, director of the sugarcane company Mon Tresor Mon Desert (MTMD), where we do our excavation, makes clear that the spectacular news must be announced in Mauritius first in stead of The Netherlands or England. MTMD intends to build a theme park about the Dodo after the excavations are finished and therefore is dependent on the good will of the Mauritian population.
