Insects are all around us. And yet we rarely have the opportunity to look at them really closely. From 23 May to 31 October 2010 Naturalis presents Bugshots: photographs by Wim van Egmond. This exhibition presents portraits of 24 different Dutch insects.

Triceratops skullTriceratops skull
On Wednesday 30 June, Naturalis collection was temporarily augmented by a Triceratops horridus skull. The huge skull, measuring 170 x 120 centimetres, was found in Wyoming. The skull will be on display in the Primeval Parade Hall, next to the Camarasaurus, until 1 July 2011.

Barnacle GeeseFatten up and go!
From 19 February 2010 to 20 February 2011 Naturalis and the Dutch Society for the Protection of Birds present an exhibition on bird migration. Every year tens of millions of migratory birds fly over, through, to or from the Netherlands. From their breeding grounds to their wintering areas and vice versa. The 'Fatten up and go' exhibition displays stuffed birds arranged in order of their migration distance.

Mauritian dodobones of most importance to the world
For the third year in a row the international dodo-expedition team, in which Naturalis scientists participate, has returned from Mauritius. An enormous amount of material from the dodo-massgrave in Mare aux Songes has been searched to find 54 dodobones belonging to at least two individuals, including very rare small bones likes nails, toebones and wingbones.

Herman the Bull

Herman the Bull
On Friday 15 February 2007 Herman the Bull, the first genetically modified mammal in the world, returned to his old stamping ground, the Naturalis Museum in Leiden. He is an icon of scientific progress and the subsequent public discussion of these issues. Information and public discussion remain important. And that is the symbolic value of having Herman the Bull in Naturalis.

Netherlands Gemmological Laboratory 
Naturalis is the seat of the Netherlands Gemmological Laboratory (NEL, for Nederlands Edelsteen Laboratorium). The laboratory will answer any queries about gemstones or pearls posed by the public. more information>>
